Boxlock FLINTLOCK Pistol ENGRAVED London Made POCKET/MUFF Self Defense Gun Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Revolutionary War Era Turner & Company Boxlock Flintlock Pocket/Boot Pistols, made circa 1770 to 1785 in London, England. This is a nice iron framed “boxlock” style flintlock pocket pistol roughly dating to the Revolutionary War era, with Turner & Co. clearly marked on the left side. Turner is listed as working in London from 1770 to 1785, though not much else is known about this maker. Other examples of similar single and double barrel pocket pistols have been seen with the same markings. This little self-defense pistol would have been most at home in the coat pocket of anyone in the busy cities of London, Paris and Liege during the tumultuous days of the war. This style of pistol is light and simple. The “Coat/Pocket Pistol” name says it all. They were the “Saturday Night Specials” of the 18th-19th century. Before the Deringer, they were “Gentleman's” or “Muff Pistols”, typically, a smaller pistol that was easily concealed. They were favored among the gentry and women because of these traits. Men would carry them concealed in a waistcoat pocket and women would hide them in a hand muff. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age and remains smooth. Solid, very good grip. Engraved frame. Markings are legible. The sliding safety is frozen. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 2 inches.
