This is an extremely rare, likely one-of-a-kind, Fox SPE Grade 16 gauge, documented in detail in the factory order cards.  There were only 164 SP Grade 16ga. guns in all configurations, all made in Utica, as it was a Savage creation.  The Fox SP Grade was introduced in 1932 to ignite new life in the Fox double shotgun.  The depression was on, and the Savage-owned Fox factory needed new business.  Just a year before, Winchester introduced the Model 21, a popular shotgun then and now.  Fox saw the opportunity to make some cost-saving changes in the appearance of the Fox with the new SP Grade.  With its smooth-sided black frame, more rounded stock and action top, the gun appeared more as an English boxlock and similar to the new Model 21.  The forend had an ebony inlay and a new shape, but internally it was exactly like every other Fox produced.  There were few SP Grade guns made, and even fewer with ejectors (SPE).  This Fox letters with ejectors, Fox/Kautzky SST, and two sets of barrels, each with their own forend.  The chokes create a very versatile set for hunting or clays, and it is certainly a grand investment vehicle, as guns this rare will always be easy to sell.  Beautiful canvas and leather case with a durable outer case protector. Offered at a very good price, it should not last long, so don’t hesitate on this one!
