Description:

MOZAMBIQUE is one of the least developed countries in Southern Africa. For years Mozambique was in a state of war and suffered great political instability. However, this has now all passed and the country is a wonderful, beautiful and safe destination in which to hunt.

The hunting industry in Mozambique has been well controlled by Government in recent years, with policies that ensure the participation of local people who receive many benefits from this valuable resource. Consequently, poaching has declined and the game populations are increasing.

Safaris De Mocambique operates on the shores of Lake Cahorra Bassa. This area is situated in the Northern Tete province and borders Zimbabwe in the West and South, and the Zambezi River and Lake Cahorra Bassa to the North. The concession is almost one million acres in extent and home to populations of both soft skinned and big game animals.

The area has very diverse habitats, ranging from Cathedral mopane and Jesse bush, to riverine forest and alluvial floodplain. It supports healthy populations of plains game, including Sable, Water Buck and Roan, as well as other typical Zambezi valley animals such as Kudu, Zebra, Impala, Bush buck, Warthog, Duiker and Grysbok. Elephant and Buffalo are abundant in the concession, which is also renown for its big cats.

The vast expanse of water (160km northern boundary) is home to large numbers of Hippo and Crocodile.

The prime hunting species offered in this unspoiled wilderness include Elephant, Cape buffalo, Sable, Leopard, Lion, Crocodile and Hippo. Note that Elephant trophies may not be imported into the Untied States at this time. There are also good quality Bush buck, Eland and Roan Antelope.

Mozambique is a Malaria area and prophylactics and other precautions are essential. The climate is variable with the cool season from April to August when temperatures range from 20 – 30°C, rising to highs of up to 42°C in October. The camps are very comfortable, some East African tented and some typical brick under thatch.

If you are looking for an exciting old – fashioned Safari, Mozambique is the place to go. You can fly into Harare where you will be met and transferred to your charter flight which lands at a new airstrip close to the camp.

FIREARMS:-

By law, a .375 H & H is the minimum caliber that may be used on thick-skinned dangerous game. A .300 or 7mm is sufficient for leopard and plains game. All hunters require a hunting license and rifle permit, which will be applied for by Safaris De Mozambique offices on behalf of the hunter. The forms you are sent must be returned in a minimum of 45 days prior to commencement of the safari.

Quantities of ammunition will also be required.

CLOTHING:-

Although there is no stipulated hunting season, hunting generally takes place between April and November. Temperatures are cold early morning and late evening (May – June / 50-60 F), but warm by day (85-95 F). A comfortable fleece or similar jacket is advisable. It is important you bring either green or khaki clothing for hunting. Three sets of hunting clothes are sufficient, as you will have daily laundry service. We recommend khaki and/or green in both long and short- sleeved shirts as well as long and short pants. Flights into the hunting areas are in small planes. It is also recommended that your luggage be in soft duffel bags and not hard cases. This is a charter aircraft stipulation due to space restrictions.
