Waters. This is a model 1836 and is dated on the lock "1838". The action is very strong and the hammer holds at full and half cock. A total of 20,000 of this model were made by the Waters firm between 1837 and 1843. It has a .56 caliber round bright steel 8 & 1/2 inch barrel.There is one very visible cartouch stamped on the left side of the stock. There is a front and rear sight. All metal is bright steel . The wood is sound . The overall length is about 14 inches. The top of the barrel is marked "U.S.","JH", and "P". This pistol should rate as "FINE". There is a captive ramrod . This is an antique- no FFL is required. It can be sent directly to a new owner. Flintlocks, particularly military pistols , are gaining rapidly in value.
