Description:
Only approximately 6000 of the many H. Aston pistols produced for the U.S. Military were marked " H.Aston & Co." This one is a good example  and is in Fine to Excellent condition. It was made in 1851 and is so marked on the rear of the lock along with " Midd-tn, Conn." The lock is also  clearly marked "H.Aston & Co. under "U.S." It has a captive ramrod and a bright steel round 8 & 1/2" barrel. The overall length is 14" It is .54 caliber. . The hammer, lock and ramrod are also finished bright. The trigger guard, back strap, butt cap and  barrel ring or support are all brass with a mellow patina. The walnut  grip, clearly shows two cartouches on the left side. The action is very strong. The hammer holds on full and half cock. On the left side of the barrel you will find "WN"  and "P" stamped along with other faint numbers. The bore looks very good also. These guns were used in the American Civil War and in the War with Mexico.  They are among the strongest and  best designed  pistols ever made for the military.
