The Winchester letter from their Gun Museum by T. E. Hall, Curator states "This was very special and was used as a display gun in the factory. It was extensively engraved and gold inlaid with a sheep & deer on the sides of the receiver. The wood was exhibition grade American walnut with a B style carving. The gun was eventually sold to a company employee." The letter was addressed to Griffin & Howe Inc., 589 Broadway, 4th Floor, New York, N.Y. I can assure you this piece was not engraved by the normal Winchester engravers. Look close at the photos and this execution is 99.5% better than all the normal engraved guns that came out of Winchester regardless of what model it was. I am most certain this gun was engraved for Winchester by either Alvin White or John E. Warren. I have handled a lot of fine guns in 53 years of full time gun trading and have a very strong feeling this was done for Winchester by Mr. John E. Warren. SOLD Price: 39500.00 - SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
