Purdey contract engraver, Stephen Kelly executed and signed the the beautiful work done on the coin finish receiver. Deeply cut and darkly shaded acanthus scroll surrounds games scenes and also covers the trigger guard, upper & lower tangs, grip cap, operating lever and forearm latching hardware. The left lockplate shows a trio of lionesses protecting their kill from a male lion with Kilimanjajo in the background. The right side features a pair of cape buffalo with one in a charging mood. The bottom depicts a bull elephant with trunk down in a no-nonsense mood.
Dense, reddish brown Circassian walnut with intricate marbled grain is used for the pistol grip stock. A shadowline cheekpiece is carved for a right handed shooter. The shooter can have his preference of a beavertail forearm or a splinter forearm. Both are factory provided with perfectly matched wood. Purdey drop points and house pattern checkering with mullered borders are present. The gold inset oval on the toeline is engraved "GRB".
This gun comes with a factory installed Schmidt & Bender 1 1/4x4x20 scope with post & crosshair reticle in Recknagel claw mounts with windage adjustments at the rear. This package comes in a Purdey oak & leather travel case with brass corners, lined in royal blue cloth with a Purdey label in the lid. The Purdey accessories include 3 ebony handled turnscrews, nickel-plated oil bottle and snap caps. There is also a test target used to shoot this rifle in at 50 yards showing 1 1/2" six round group with a flier.
The barrels are bright & shiny, excellent. The action is tight, barrels are an original lustrous blue, stock shows only minor use marks, optics are clear and bright and the case shows only small scuffs on the brass corners with the interior cloth in excellent shape.
