Description:
Manufactured in 1964. All-original 'used' 12ga 30” Broadway rib F/M (.038”/.019”) Signed both sides 'R.Risack'. 1-1/2” x 1-3/4" x 14-3/8” LOP to original Browning trap pad. 8Lbs. 4oz. Exceptional wood figure and engraving! Wood finish evidences minimal crazing on the right-side receiver tab of the butt stock (typical of this era) which also authenticates originality of the finishes. Metal finishes are original. The only possible detractors I am aware of are: 1) Small hairline crack in the right receiver 'tab' of the butt stock (photo 15) – I elected NOT to have it repaired, to retain the original wood finish. I decided if it spread, I could always have it repaired/re-finished but it has held-up over the 10 years it has been in my possession. 2) One small area of 'Renaissancing' in the French gray finish, right side / top of standing breech (photo 14) also, no change in 10 years. These are factored into the price. Action is still very tight. Bores are excellent. Serial number 229xx S4. NOTE: A case is NOT included but I can make a vintage Airways case available for an additional price. Photos are intended to convey general condition of wood and metal finishes, noting the most obvious blemishes. Please feel free to ask questions or to request close-up photos of specific details you would like to confirm via the e-mail feature below.

As a buyer myself, I understand how important it is to verify as many details as possible to avoid the trouble (to both buyer and seller) of shipping for inspection, only to be returned. You will only be able to confirm condition/details and seller's valuation, or establish your own valuation by personal inspection - so it is pointless to make a counter-offer until you've seen the item first-hand. I have tried to represent the item accurately and price it fairly, given my current knowledge of the market, FN/Browning details and production history, including authenticity and originality based on years of study and understanding of the 'factory' standards of quality. Not all Pointer Grades are alike. Therefore, I challenge you to find a true 'factory' Y-tang 30" Broadway example at a more reasonable 'collector' value.

This Pointer example is: (subject to your own verification)
1 of 355 12ga (excluding Superlight) Pointer Grades sold from 1964 thru 1977
1 of 65 Pointer Broadway Trap models sold from 1964 thru 1977
1 of 93 12ga Pointer Grades sold in 1964
1 of 17 Pointer Broadway Trap models sold in 1964
(these figures are from Ned Schwing's book on the Browning Superposed)
Pointer Grades were introduced in 1960 and were discontinued as a standard catalog offering in 1966 making them relatively scarce. Pointer Grades were available by special order after 1965, but This example is from the most desirable period of artistry by the top 20 engravers employed by Fabrique Nationale and was executed within strict design & cost constraints under the direction of the 4 FN Master engravers at this time - Vrancken, Watrin, Dierckx, and Magis. The engraving style, design, details, and Pointer pattern execution of the post-1966 cost-reduction measures (& beyond) is incomparable to that of the early '60's due to the eventual cost-sutting measures implemented beginning in 1966. Original and exceptional Y-tang collector-quality Pointer examples are highly sought-after and are one of the standard production grades that will hold or increase in value - but wiil also remain increasingly difficult to find and acquire.
