Description:
Description: SN 11140/11141. (1902) Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. This fine old pair of high end quality guns appears to have been completely rebuilt by the factory in 1994, including new 28" dovetailed bbls engraved "William Powell & Son 35. Carrs Lane. Birmingham." on narrow, swamped game ribs. Rib extensions have oval dolls heads with third bite, and are gold inlaid with "1" or "2" denoting a true pair. These numerals are also on top levers and forend tips. Bbl flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs dated 1994 for 2-3/4' chambers, with SNs "16158" and "16159" engraved on bottoms of bbls. (As is true with many gunmakers, a SN is assigned to each new pair of bbls.) Case hardened, square backed, sidelock actions feature automatic safeties, pivoting third fasteners, and dbl triggers. Actions are engraved with 70% coverage well cut scroll, and have makers name on each lockplate. Scroll engraved and blued trigger guards have orig SNs on tangs. Very finely matched, beautifully streaked and lightly figured flesh-toned European walnut straight grip buttstocks measure 14-5/8" over checkered wood butts, and feature usual drop points, point pattern checkering, and silver ovals on toe line. Matching splinter Southgate ejector forends have Anson releases. Gun no. "1": Bore diameter: left -.728, right - 727. Bore restrictions: left - .030 (full), right - .009 (IC). Wall thickness: left - .029, right - .032. Drop at heel: 2-1/4", drop at comb: 1-3/8". Neutral cast. Weight: 6 lbs. 12 oz. LOP: 14-5/8". Gun no. "2": Bore diameter: left -.727, right - .727. Bore restrictions: left - .029 (full), right - .010 (IC). Wall thickness: left - .032, right - .032. Drop at heel: 2-1/4", drop at comb: 1-3/8". Neutral cast. Weight: 6 lbs. 11 oz. LOP: 14-5/8". Old, possibly orig, leather two-gun case (factory's ledger page specifies "non-oak") has brass corners and large central brass rectangle. Interior is lined in scarlet cloth, and has reproduction Powell label in lid. Case contains two pairs of new Powell marked snap caps. PROVENANCE: Factory ledger page. CONDITION: Excellent, as completely refurbished by factory. Bbls retain essentially all their factory blue. Actions mostly cleaned to coin finish, but have traces of orig color where protected, engraving remains sharp and clear. Newly made stocks are excellent, with a few light handling marks. Guns are mechanically crisp. Case leather is very dark, and has been conserved. Straps are good, handle renewed. New interior cloth is excellent, with some light rubs. Label is excellent. A great handling pair of guns.

I added 4 photos regarding the build sheet and rebarreling of the pair by William Powell.  These guns are just like new.  New barrels for serial nos.  11140 and 11141 were 16158 and 16159 given to the new barrels.
