Description:
#6667, Alex'r Henry, Edinburgh and London, Maker to Their Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and Duke of Edinburgh: A Best 450 3 1/4" Black Powder Express Double Rifle Made in 1892 with a Hammerless Cocking Underlever Sidelock action that is Henry's patent #5273 of November 4, 1882, This is a Henry Jones type action that pulls forward a cocking piece from the Jones type turret which connects with the bottom of the tumblers and cocks each tumbler if fired, The piece with 28" damascus barrels with Henry progressive rifling, Full length rib with 1 standing & 1 folding sights with silver sight lines, Cocking indicators with "Cocked" inlayed in Gold, Carved fences, Top tang safety slide with a stalking/bolted safety block, Swing lever release forend catch, Steel engraved trapdoor grip cap, Shadowline cheekpiece, Sling eyes, 14 3/8" LOP over a full face checkered butt with engraved steel heel and toe plates, 10 lbs. 1 oz., Well figured wood, 90% coverage of period scroll engraving including the top strap, lever, trigger guard, forend and grip cap, This 126 year old Classic has bores that are excellent plus and almost appear as they did in 1892, It retains 80% original barrel browning, It still has an unbelievable 70% original case colors, The breech face and receiver flats retain 90% case colors, The inside of the opening lever and forend retain nearly 100% bright and vivid case colors, The stock has been oiled but I don't believe ever sanded, The original checkering remains at 99%, As mentioned the bores remain in superb condition and are bright & shiny as new, The screws are all of 92-94% correct and sharp. The top of the frame is engraved "No. 242 Henry's Patent". I presume this classic was the 242th built using the cocking underlever of patent #5273. This is another first rate quality classic with style, grace, workmanship, handling and Alexander Henry romance from a great period at the pinnacle of sporting guns in the last years of the 19th century. ///////////////////////////////////// As my friend Tom Rowe, the author of countless historic British rifles quoted "There was not a better maker of the very highest quality rifle than the Edinburgh firm of Alex Henry, and this firearm proves the point. Elegantly styled and built, these perfectly balanced double barrel rifles handle like a good shotgun. They almost point themselves.
