Description:
This is an excellent example of an extremely rare and very desirable DWM Model 1902 Swiss Contract Test Luger chambered in the 9 mm Luger cartridge that is fitted with the scarce short 4 inches fat barrel configuration. This model with the serial number 22060 falls right into the range of the 1902 cartridge counter and Danzig test Lugers, however, it was manufactured as a Swiss contract Luger. It retains the "old" style receiver with flat leaf springs, short old style barrel extension, no stock lug, recessed breechblock, dished toggles with toggle locks and grip safety. The top of the chamber area is deeply stamped with the Swiss Cross/Sunburst with the "DWM" logo on the front toggle. The left side of the barrel extension has the small Swiss Cross firing proof, (which is also stamped on the left rear side of the barrel and grips) and the Cross/V acceptance of Colonel Vogelsang the Swiss Army inspector. It is numbered in a commercial manner with the full serial number "22060" on the front of the frame and underside of the barrel. The partial serial number "60" is on the various small parts. It has the unaltered, first pattern safety with the unmarked and bright polished lower area on the frame. It has the rust blued finish with straw-colored smaller parts with checkered walnut grips. This Luger is the complete full rig with a beautiful original condition Swiss holster and shoulder strap and two original nickel plated magazines with unnumbered wood bases that have the small circular Swiss discs on both sides of the bases.
The condition of this Luger is a very nice 98 plus % original of the blue finish overall. The smaller parts retain also 98% plus of their straw colors overall. The grips are numbered to the gun and have a small Swiss cross stamped on each of them. They are in excellent condition with nice sharp distinct checkering overall. This extremely rare and beautiful 1902 Swiss Luger has a shiny bore barrel and all matching numbers including the grips, except the magazines as it should be.
We invite the potential buyer to come to our store and see it in person; we also will make if you request additional pictures of this beautiful 116 years old Swiss 1902 Luger. In February of 2006 at the Los Vegas Gun Show, I met the most known in the World Luger collector and Expert of Lugers Mr. Ralph Shattuck author "World of Lugers". Hi signed to me his book "Lugers of Ralph Shattuck".
On page 8 in this book is the picture of the same type Swiss Luger as mine and on page 9 is a description of this Luger: "In 1903 a Swiss military officer purchased this Swiss 1902-03 fat barrel, S/N 22049 which was passed down to his grandchildren. Value $25,000 low/$35,000 high-only 1 known. This my Swiss S/N 22060 is the second known and there could be a few of them exists, but this one could be one of the best from them.
