Known as the Pistol-framed Cadet Rifle. It was chambered in .50 Remington Pistol Centerfire. It was intended for sale to military schools and boys cadet corps. Markings: legible; navy inspector markings "P/FCW" on right side of frame - left side of frame marked "REMINGTONS ILION NY USA/PAT. MAY 3D NOV 15TH 1864 APRIL 17TH 1866" Both barrel bands marked with a “U”. Underside marked on the wood, “25” and “WC”. The gun is 41 1/2" long and the barrel to the receiver is 26 3/4". According to Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms, only about 1,000 of these cadet rifles were produced around the turn of the 20th century by Hartley & Co. of New York.
