This revolver is the more rare ejectorless version.
Antique Colt 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver, made in 1886 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Model 1877 was Colt’s first venture into double action revolvers. It was quite successful, selling 166,849 from 1877 through 1909. Nonetheless, there was some hesitation to move away from the single action mechanism, which had so proven itself. Famous adopters of the Lightning were William “Billy the Kid” Bonney and John Wesley Hardin, two legendary names of the American West.
Cylinder is tight.
Included is an Official Colt Manufacturing Company Authentication Letter showing initial shipment January 4, 1886 to Schoverling, Daly and Gales, New York, New York.
This revolver is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.” Patent dates of 1871, 74 and 75 are located on the left side of the frame. The hard rubber grips bear the iconic rampant colt.
The overall condition is very good and functions mechanically. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are legible. Serial numbers match throughout. The trademarked grips are in good shape with no chips or cracks. The bore is in good condition. The action is excellent and tight.
