J.A. Scotcher Revolver, 9mm (.36 Caliber) Percussion, Presentation Cased
Description:
J.A. Scotcher, gunmaker, had his shop at 17 Meat Market, in Bury, St. Edmunds, in the latter half of the 19th Century. Today this address, near the Corn Exchange, is known as the Traverse, and it was still a gun market until 1980. This small, five shot, percussion revolver is in 9mm (.36 Cal.) and in working condition. The typical English Case is in good condition with its original accessories, including flask (marked SYKES), bullet mold, cleaning rod, oil bottle and a tin of Joyce & Co. caps. There are a dozen or so balls. Most of the original finish has gone, leaving a pleasing blue-gray patina. This is a nice, complete 1850's period cased English revolver.
