Description:
Serial Number 836.
Octagon 24" Barrel. Diameter of Barrel is 7/16".  Entire gun measures 39 1/2" long.  LOP 13 1/2".
Trigger guard should have a little finger grip/hook piece, looks like this was removed many years ago.
2 triggers.  If gun is half cocked, front trigger releases the breach for loading or removing shell.
Right side of gun has a manual extractor.  Left side has a latch for the breach.
2nd Type - the slotted link moved to the left hand side of the rifle, the extractor moved to the right side.  Iron frames only. (1863 - 1876)

Several people have inquired about the gauge.  Below is our conclusions.
We can not say with 100% certainty, but it looks like it is a .44 rimfire.
A .44 Remington Mag will fit but does not go all the way in,
A .41 Remington Mag will fit all the way in.

Neither will fit into the end of the barrel, but the bullet part will fit.
A .38 will fit in the end of the barrel with room to spare and is loose where you would load it.
Would you agree a .44?
