S&W 1st Model Schofield with Kelton Safety
Description:
.45s&w, #2240, 7 inch barrel, blue finish, 2 piece walnut grips, U.S. marked, fitted with Kelton thumb safety, circa 1875.
Springfield armoury installed the patented "Kelton safety" on 25 Schofields. Basically, the hammer would not fall until the safety's thumb piece was depressed. It was deemed unacceptable and no futher revolvers were converted.
Condition: very good bright bore, barrel shows 70% blue, cylinder is plum patina with good blue in flutes, frame has 90% blue with use scratches, grips are excellent with faint cartouches, excellent mechanically, excellent marks.
