Description: E. REMINGTON & SONS NO. 1 ROLLING BLOCK .40-70 SHARPS (CF) SPORTING RIFLE, CIRCA 1874-75. 32” octagonal barrel with original elevator rear and folding hooded front (perfect working order) has all the original factory blue save some fading at edges . Serial number in the 65XX range. All original and matching. Frame with almost all the original case hardening. Six line Patent dates crisply struck on left frame ending in Sept. 1873. Excellent unturned screws with some original blue. Excellent crisp barrel marking "E. Remington & Sons. Ilion N.Y.". Sraight stock and forend with all the original finish and only wear being on right side of forend from storage. Case colored forend cap and crescent shaped original buttplate with traces of case colors. Mint bore and crisp five groove rifling and perfect working order as probably shot only a few times. Similar to the one Custer carried on his Yellowstone Expedition in 1873. SOLD Antique: Yes |
