Gye and Moncrief 577-500 double rifle with original 12-bore shotgun barrels
Description: Gye & Moncrrief .577-500 with original 12-bore shotgun barrels In original oak and leather case with numerous accessories. The most complete and historical rifle I have owned. Approximately 30 different accessories in the two-tiered case. Rifle barrels are 26” and shotgun barrels are 32”, choked cylinder. Rifle dates from 1878 and send to Joseph Campbell Shorb, MD, in California. An article on the doctor and his family which I wrote will accompany the rifle. Shorb was a Civil War surgeon from Maryland and his father was a US Senator. In 1863 he and his brother, James Debarth Shorb, moved to California. James married and developed the largest winery in the world. Joseph continued his medical practice, dying accidentally in 1889 while using chloroform to induce sleep. James and Joseph are related to the WWII General, George Patton. All is detailed in my article that was published two years ago in the Black Powder Cartridge News. Bores in both sets of barrels are stone mint—like they have never been fired! Accessories include mould and hollow point pin, powder measure, shot measure, shot shell trimmer, reloading dies (1878 style) capper, decapper, sling, each barrel set has its own for end, leather sleeves for each set of barrels, etc. 80% coverage of the best very fine Purdey-style engraving. Rifle shoots 2” groups with 55 grains of IMR 4198 and a 440-grain bullet. What an excellent choice for bison, bear, or boar plus birds in the US or buffalo and birds in Africa! Antique. $17,500. Payments are fine over a reasonable amount of time such as 90 days. Three day inspection. If returned, buyer pays shipping both ways and returns must be fully insured and confirmed via email. Time payments are considered a final sale. There are some items I can accept for partial trades. Let me know what you have. Email to <pappasmtaonline> or call after 6pm Alaska time at 907-495-4505. I am reducing my collection of double rifles. More to follow. Thanks for looking.
