Description: *** SOLD *** JUST IN FROM SCOTLAND *** Handsome John Dickson & Son 12 bore Round Action Ejector with lots of case coloring. We were recently given this gun to sell on consignment by the owner of John Dickson & Son. *** This gun has been through Dickson’s workshop in Scotland where all woodwork was cleaned and re-oiled. All the furniture was reblacked, all pins colored and it was serviced and cleaned. In addition, the leather on the recoil pad was replaced. *** The 28” sleeved nitro steel barrels are proofed for 2-3/4” shotshells. The rib is inscribed "John Dickson & Son . Gunmakers . Edinburgh". The right barrels is bored 0.729 with a constriction of 0.014 for a tight Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028. The left barrel is bored 0.729 and has a constriction of 0.025 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.030. *** The stock with Price of Wales style grip and splinter forearm are made out of a stunning piece of highly figured French walnut and have a recently re-covered leather pad. The engraving is crisp. Stock dimensions are 14-5/8” over a 3/4” leather covered recoil pad by 1-1/2” by 2-3/8”. Cast off for the righthand shot. *** PROVENANCE: This Dickson has a very poignant and interesting provenance. It was given to Percy Lionel Moubray on his eighteenth birthday in 1890 by his father. The family was from Otterston and Cockairnie, Fife. Interestingly, the gun had the same dimensions as the pair owned by young Mourbray’s father and so was sometimes used as part of a trio of round actions while shooting on the grouse moors. Percy entered the Royal Highlanders in 1899 rising to the rank of Captain in 1904. He served in the South African War where he was awarded the Queen’s Medal with three clasps and the King’s Medal with two clasps. He was “Killed in Action” on 29 October, 1914 while serving with the Black Watch in the stubborn defense of the Menin Road during the first battle of Ypres. His gold pocket watch, found on the battlefield, was returned to the family by the German government, a fairly common occurrence during the early stages of the Great War. *** This gun from the legendary Scottish gunmaker is on face and in excellent mechanical condition. Perfect for game and clays. If you have ever shot grouse on a Scottish moor then you already know why you should own this double! *** Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense if the gun is not as described in the listing. SOLD Antique: Yes |
