Description:

This is a lovely light weight 16 bore double, top lever, hammer gun, 2 ¾” Nitro Proof, in excellent condition throughout, and a good example of a best gun from a lesser known maker. Made by W.C.H. Jones, a Welsh gun maker from the mid to late 1800’s. I believe this gun was made in the late 1770’s to late 1880’s because of its original 27” steel barrels with a matt finished rib, ivory bead, and barrels marked W.C.H. Jones, Newtown North Wales. It handles and shoots very well and has pristine bores. With bar action rebounding locks of the best quality and in perfect mechanical condition. Anson & Deeley forend release. Full coverage scroll engraving. The action is tight and mechanically like new, with spring return strikers and nicely done percussion fences. The gun appears to have had little use and good care, I only used it several times for grouse hunting and it was very good for that. At a little over 5 ½ lbs. and fitted with a Pachmayr old English ¾” decelerator recoil pad this is a very nice best quality gun for the field or clays.
