Payment Types Accepted: Money Order, Certified Check Description: This is a scarce Simeon North Model 1826 Pistol Made for the United States Navy. It's .54 Caliber with an 8 5/8" barrel, basically a smaller version of the Model 1819 North Contract Pistols to the Army. Only 1,500 pairs of these Pistols were made from 1826-1828 and delivered to the Brooklyn Naval Yard. Lock is marked "U.S. S. NORTH" under the brass flashpan and "1828" behind the hammer. Like almost all of surviving examples, it was converted to percussion probably sometime around the 1850's using the Belgian Cone Method. BTW, original USN Model 1826's in their original Flintlock configuration are worth up to $10,000. At nearly 200 years old, this one is in fairly rough shape overall but the outline of the US Naval Inspector's cartouche is still somewhat visible on the left side of the grip just behind the upper lockplate screwhead. Here are some the things that I can find that's wrong with it. 1. The lock mechanics are barely working and needs attention. 2. The ramrod assembly, hammer screw, and nipple are modern replacements. 3. The front barrel band is an old replacement. 4. Like most, the walnut stock has several significant lateral cracks running through the lockplate area. The wood feels stable given all the steel re-enforcements in the design. 5. The original belt hook on the left side opposite the lock has been replaced by an old metal staple using the original screw hole and guide pin hole in the wood. 6. I cannot find any markings left on the barrel, perhaps removed during the conversion 150 years ago and/or wear as there is some pitting around the bolster area of the nipple. Everything else on this pistol appears to be original including the front and rear sights. Interesting piece of history that would make a great restoration project or simply as awall hanger. You don't find a lot of US Navy militaria dating back to the 1820's in any condition. Price: $795 Antique: Yes Manufacturer: North Model: 1819 Caliber Info: .54 |
