Description:
N. Bodson Belgian Best Grade Scalloped Boxlock Ejector 12 bore with 29 ½” chopper-lump Nitro proved Damascus barrels both full choke (0.037”).  Overall condition would be just short of excellent. With its exquisite engraving, this is a truly beautiful gun. The Greener’s “Self-Acting Hammerless Ejector Gun” type action has a Greener cross-bolt, under locking lugs, side-clips, and Greener side safety - all of which function flawlessly. The round knob pistol grip stock is a dark red-brown with cheek-piece, buffalo horn butt plate and, measures 1 ½ X2 ¾ X14 ¾ inches. The forend wood has a long scratch where someone slipped while trying to release the forend latch. The stock has 100% original finish but has numerous small handling marks. The action is perfectly clean without the slightest blemish, but case colors only in protected locations. The Nitro proved Damascus barrels retain 98% original pattern, have perfect bores, no dents, and a single ivory bead. Weight is 6lb 15oz. It has no serial number. The gun has sling swivels and articulated front trigger. Barrel weight is 3lb 6.9oz (1549.2 grams) and is marked “Non Pore Balle”, a proof mark discontinued in 1897 that means they have choke.
Little is known of N. Bodson but his guns are frequently encountered in the fine gun trade. I personally have seen guns made in vintage conformations common as early as 1873 and as late as 1965. The latter were imported by Pachmyar in Los Angeles, CA.  A case label from about 1888 is marked “N. Bodson, Arquebusier Brevete, Gunsmith to His Majesty the King of the Netherlands, 23 Faubourg d’Amercoeur, Liege.”
