COLT MODEL 1902/1904 (PHILIPPINE CONSTABULARY) REVOLVER
Description: From first issue of .45's. Colt Model 1902 ''Philippine Constabulary'' ''U.S.'' marked Double Action Revolver, #45487, .45 Colt, 6'' round barrel with standard sights and right-side ejector rod, marked with maker's name and Hartford address in one line on top, and ''45 Colt'' at left; long-fluted 6-shot round cylinder is marked ''5487'' and ''RAC'' on rear face. Solid frame has right-side loading gate (marked ''5487''), marked ''U.S.'' at right-front, ''ITT'' and ''1902'' to rear, has the encircled ''Rampant Colt'' logo and ''R.A.C.'' on left side; oversize trigger guard (longer trigger allows for better leverage due to stronger hammer spring ordered by the Army) is marked ''R.A.C.'' on left-front web; integral gripstraps have ser. no. and a lanyard loop at butt, are fitted with checkered hard rubber ''bird's head'' grips having the Rampant Colt at top. Mfg'd ca. 1900, originally with full blued finish. Condition is fine, retaining approx. 65% deep Colt blue (missing mainly at gripstraps), with light highpoint wear, spotting to frame sides, most blue in cylinder flutes, deep blue to hammer (with polished sides), and bright fire-blue to trigger. Grips are solid and smooth showing moderate wear to checkering and designs, and without chips and fit well. Action is smooth and strong; bore is brilliant with light occasional frosting and sharp rifling. This is an exceptional, early Colt military revolver, of which only about 4,600 were produced 120 years ago. MODEL 1902/1904 (PHILIPPINE CONSTABULARY) .45 LC cal., a variation of the Model 1878, except has oversized trigger guard and long trigger, 6 shot standard 1878 type cylinder with long flutes, pinched frame, 6 in. barrel, blue finish, hard rubber grips.
