"Buff & Buff Engineers’ 18-Inch Wye Level, Circa 1905. Has an 18" telescope with 1⅜" objective. Telescope, level and Contact points of bell-metal collars have a Phosphor-bronze cloth finish. Brass name plate is marked “Buff & Buff MFG Co. /19133 / Boston". Buff & Buff Manufacturing Company was started by George Louis Buff in Boston, MA from 1898 to 1962. They specialized in surveying transits and equipment. This Engineers’ level is pictured and described in, The Buff & Buff Manufacturing Co., High Grade Engineering, Surveying, Astronomical and Mining Instruments Catalog, 1905 (pg. 66-67). In very good overall condition. Comes in original mahogany case.
