Description: EXCELLENT CIVIL WAR SMITH OR SMITH’S PATENT U.S. CONTRACT PERCUSSION CAVALRY CARBINE CIRCA 1862-3. 21 ½” round .50 caliber barrel. Frame stamped “ADDRESS/POULTNEY & TRIMBLE/BALTIMORE U.S.A.” and “SMITH’S PATENT/JUNE 23, 1857”. All matching in the 9xxx range and 100% original with 70% plus blue and case hardening. Fine screws with much original blue. Left side of barrel stamped with U.S. Ordnance Inspector stamp “LFP”. Stock and forend with the original finish and a very fine fully legible pair of U.S. Ordnance Inspector’s cartouches on the left wrist of the stock. Perfect working order and mint bore. Very tight action. Little used. Issued to the U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiments from West Virginia, Ohio, Connecticut, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Extra nice example. SOLD Antique: Yes |
