Description:
Selling package of: (1) Remington Model 121 Fieldmaster .22 Smoothbore and (1) Remington 121 Fieldmaster .22 (Short, Long and Long Rifle) Barrel.

Brief History: I inherited this rifle from my dad. Originally, I thought dad had purchased the rifle with the rifled barrel attached to be used to shoot pigeons out of the homestead barn. However the date codes on the .22 Smoothbore barrel and the lack of date codes on the .22 Rifle barrel indicate that he purchased this rifle as a .22 Smoothbore.

The rifle barrel does have a “2” stamped on the bottom of the barrel forward of the slot that fits into the receiver. Per information on Leeroysramblings , this number indicates that the barrel was a part order barrel (not originally assembled to firearm). This means that dad purchased the .22 Rifle barrel later and attached it to the rifle. Hit or miss, he soon realized that the barn was going to be one huge sieve. So he changed back to the .22 Smoothbore. I doubt that the rifle barrel has had a box of shells shot through it. I have always known the .22 Smoothbore barrel to be attached to the rifle for the past 65+ years.

The condition of the .22 Smoothbore rifle is fair on the outside. Fifty+ years of storage in the garage, along with the humidity and little to no cleaning, caused a film of rust to cover the rifle. Dad said he took sandpaper and sanded off the rust. There isn’t any rust pitting on the outside of the rifle. The front sight is not original. It actually looks like dad brazed in a makeshift finishing nail for a front sight. The bore is very bright. The stock and forearm are in good condition. The rifle functions very well.

The condition of the .22 rifle barrel is 85% on the outside. My estimate is based on the fact that there is blue wearing on the sides of the rifle barrel where the forearm would have rubbed against it when cycling a round. And the small brass insert, that would have been seen on the top front of the front sight blade, is missing. There is the small indent but no brass. The bore is very bright.

I disassembled the rifle to check for rust on the inside. The inside is rust free and in very good condition. The stock bolt does have some rust pitting; and, although I have a picture of the stock bolt, this pitting can’t be seen in the photo.

I have extensive photos which I will provide to interested parties. Buyer pays shipping plus return shipping should the rifle be returned after purchase. This rifle ships from Alaska.
