Marlin Model 1881 .40-60 – FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITION, NICE!, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Marlin, Year 1885, .40-60 cal, 9lbs 11oz, LOP 13 1/8" Serial Number: 9563 What a great find we have here in this ANTIQUE Marlin Model 1881 rifle on the large frame and .40-60 caliber. Most of these rifles are in rough condition, have been restored or “refinished” over time, or have been altered in some significant way. This rifle, sn9563 built in 1885, is wholly original with no restoration of any kind and still retains LOTS OF ORIGINAL CONDITION. The 28” full octagon heavy barrel has 90% factory blue, EXCELLENT SHINY BORE WITH STRONG RIFLING AND ONLY VERY MINOR FROSTING, original factory sights, clear distinct stampings. The full-length magazine tube is without damage. The action retains 70% factory blue with some streaking, loading gate still has 90% charcoal blue, solid screws, and is excellent mechanical working order. You can take this Marlin out and shoot it to your heart’s content and she should be accurate with the excellent rifling and bore. THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED RIFLE WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY. WE HAVE STRIPPED THE ACTION TO ITS SMALLEST PART, ULTRASONIC CLEANED ALL, INSPECTED ALL PARTS FOR INTEGRITY AND FUNCTION, LUBRICATED AND REASSEMBLED, READY FOR USE. The wood is original to the gun and has 136 years of bumps and dings, but has no cracks, splits, or repairs and still has excellent wood to metal fit. The wood finish appears to be factory original and is mostly all there. The factory crescent steel butt plate is in excellent condition as well. This a BIG heavy rifle weighing 9lbs. 11oz. and the Cody Firearms Museum info sheets documents the rifle just as you see her, shipped in 1885! Finding an ANTIQUE Marlin with such a good bore and excellent factory condition is a rare occurrence, as the black powder of the day was very corrosive. Bad bores don’t shoot well and hurt the value of the gun. Having a Marlin that has been thoroughly cleaned, inspected, and lubricated WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY is the best way to buy a rifle that you may choose to shoot. Can you imagine taking a fine buck with a 136 year old rifle??? Ammunition is readily available on the internet for reasonable prices. Thanks for looking!
