"Beautiful 1860 Staff & Field Presentation Sword with Whistle guard made by J. M. Litchfield & Co out of San Francisco. This sword has presentations on both the guard and sword scabbard. The scabbard reads “Presented to/ Capt. Thos. O’Neil/ 1st Regiment N.G.C Co. M/ By His Fellow Employees, County Clerk’s Office/ San Francisco Cala May 7th 1898/ In Defense Of Our Country/ “Remember The Maine" “ The blade is acid etched an nickel plated with patriotic theme. The blade is starting to flake. The hilt has a whistle guard. The guard is gilded cast brass with patriotic themes in excellent condition. The scabbard is nickel plated and has double sided gilded brass mounts in relief.
