"Beautiful presentation sword by Ames Manufacturing Company! Overall Length is 38" long, blade is 31". Blasé is beautifully etched and still in excellent condition. The hilt has the Knight’s head pommel. Handle is both relief cast brass and silver. This sword has its scabbard that is in excellent condition and has a beautiful presentation on the back side. The front side is beautifully decorated. And was gold plated brass. Approximately 40% of the gold still remains. The back side of the scabbard is marked: “From members of the / NATIONAL LANCERS / MAJOR THOMAS J. PIERCE / their former Captain now commanding the / Battalion of Cavalry 1st Brig. 1st Div. M. V. M. / this Sword is presented as a token of their/ Respect for him as a Soldier and a Friend / Boston Nov. 30th 1852" Beautiful presentation sword!
