Great M1883 Imperial Japanese Naval Officers dagger originally authorized in 1883. This early model dagger features a sharkskin sheath and stingray skin hilt. There is one very small rust speck on the blade, otherwise the blade is perfect. All the features on the dagger are very sharp. This is a pre-war dagger, not to be confused with the poor quality daggers made during the war..This dagger was brought back by a Navy Captain who was assigned as the military commanding officer of one of the captured Japenese Islands, in the Pacific. I purchased the dagger from his son, and I should have obtained a letter from the son detailing his fathers experiences during the war and how he came into procession of the dagger . I've had this dagger for over 40 years.
