UNUSUAL FANCY WALNUT 1892 SPECIAL ORDER RIFLE WITH HALF-OCTAGON BARREL & FULL MAGAZINE, .32-20, MADE 1908.
Description: UNUSUAL FANCY WALNUT 1892 SPECIAL ORDER RIFLE WITH HALF-OCTAGON BARREL AND FULL MAGAZINE, .32-20 CALIBER, #438XXX, MADE 1908. The half octagon with full magazine is actually two special order features because when a half oct. barrel was ordered it came standard with a half magazine unless specially requested full magazine. This rifle also has a fairly dense piece of highly figured walnut in both the butt stock and forearm. The barrel and magazine show good aged and thinning blue with most of the thinning on the sides ahead of the forearm. The receiver is mostly gray with some aged blue in the most protected areas and loading gate. The rear sight is a Marbles flat top buckhorn that is mated with a Lyman "Jack" sight which is a half moon blade with ivory bead. The butt stock and forearm are generally excellent with tight wood to metal fit and only one tiny chip at the upper tang/receiver junction on the left side. The action is tight and the bore is minty bright! According to the Winchester Handbook by George Madis, only 613 Model 1892 rifles had half octagon barrels- most of these would have had half magazines. A very unusual rifle with fancy walnut.
