Description:
Springfield 50 cal. Civil War made Allin Short Rifle Trapdoor Conversion Indian wars era.

Antique. #SN 10; 50 cal with fair rifled bore. barrel arsenal altered to 32 1/2".  US Springfield 1864 marked.
Mechanically completely functional & has numerous cartouches on left side of stock below reciever. Wood is solid with typical scratches & marks from use. Another fine example of a desirable variation of an Allin conversion rifle & comes with correct bayonet scabbard and US marked bayonet.

The 1865 Allin "Trapdoor" Conversion single-shot represented a new standard for U.S. military armament: breech-loading metallic cartridge rifles. Such arms fired ready-made metal cartridges that were fitted into a chamber at the breech, which was then closed by the hinged "trapdoor" bolt.

A good example, .50-caliber, centerfire rifle; distinctive “trapdoor” breechblock loading system. The breechblock is stamped “1864” over eagle’ s head at the hinge. The lock is marked in front of hammer with spread winged eagle and “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD”. The breech block is marked with 1865 and an eagle. The tang is marked with an eagle. The barrel is marked “I” on left side under receiver and hinge-block; ; barrel bands each marked with standard “U”. Two barrel bands and band springs; ribbed and slotted-head type ramrod. Breechblock and hammer retain some case-color. All metal parts in smooth surface. The action and mechanics are tight and smooth. Walnut stock is clean with no wood loss. Smalll lengthwise cracks under left reciever and near front band spring.

Antique ships direct to buyer with no FFL or C&R License needed.
