Description:
This is a contemporary NC Mountain Rifle Made by Joe Farmer of Waynesville, NC. Joe Farmer (1937-2010) was featured in the Book "Foxfire 5" along with several other muzzle-loading gunsmith in the area to include Jim Chambers. This rifle is a typical high end Mountain Rifle of the kind that were used in the Smokey Mountain area region from the early 1800's through the 1930's. This gun has a 44 inch .45 caliber barrel. Very few Mountain Rifles were of larger caliber. It has double set triggers, a semi-buckhorn rear sight and a barley corn front sight. It is stocked in a fancy curly maple wood and has a banana patch box. All of the mountings are of iron. Very few Mountain Rifles were mounted with brass because it was expensive at the time. This guns deluxe features are the nose cap, ramrod entry pipe and patch box.  The majority of Mountain Rifles had none of these refinements. This gun would be equally at home over the fire place or in the field or range.  It weighs just under 8 pounds.
