Description:
This fine ram-rod bayonet model 1884/1888 rifle has a clean rifled bore with some roughness in the grooves from blackpowder ammo, and a 32 1/2" barrel . Action works well and the exterior metal is brownish softening and the breechblock has very soft color case hardening. . Most of these that come from this area were issued to volunteer troops from Connecticut and Massachusetts in the Span Am War. A correct steel buttplate with cleaning rod door..The action work well and the American black walnut stock is very good with hand rubbed oil finish and the 1892 cartouche. And SN 516807 Militia.rack numbers on the left side of stock Has a complete easy to read proof of 1892. A large P proof on the underside of the wrist also.Correct front barrel stacking band, and working ram-rod baynet .good shooter .small chip out lof stock left side on breech.Overall would make a good black powder shooter. Typical wartime used dings and scrapes but solid and nothing serious for the age of thos fine gun. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
