Description:
SOLD With a serial # 771, chambered for 30 RF,cartridge, with 3 1/2" octagon barrel with an oxidized moderately pitted bore. The barrel and hammer have toned to a brown patina overall with scattered fine oxidation and light wear along the edges. The brass frame is a lightly tarnished dark ocher patina with tiny impact marks on the butt. The barrel is numbered to the frame. The smooth rosewood grips are pencil numbered to the gun and remain fair with light handling marks and a flexing vertical crack the length of the right panel from tightening the screw too much?. The barrel pivots in either direction, similar in appearance to the Morgan & Clapp derringer, and I'm sure this is their work . Morgan & Clapp of New Haven , Conn. made these from 1864 to 1866 with only about 500 made.Measures about 6 3/4" overall, with a tight lock-up.When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
