Description:
A fine halfstock percussion rifle with serial #000, 56 cal, 27 1/2'' octagon barrel with a bright about excellent bore which shows some sparsely scattered very light oxidation. The barrel is a dull plum and gray patina showing some light tool marks from the building process; it features a flat top front sight and v-notch rear. The lock shows nice color case-hardening with a bit of light surface oxidation. There is a brass nosecap, dual spur brass triggerguard, rather generous brass folding door patchbox, somewhat rudimentary toeplate and ornate sideplate with a running foxes with a hardwood ramrod with a brass tip. The hardwood stock rates very good with a generous left side cheekpiece and carved oak leaf decoration here and there. Obviously someone's custom build, the construction is rather rudimentary but was it executed by a thoughtful hand who likely would have continued to improve as he plied his craft. With the nice bore it will no doubt drop deer just fine, nd useful rifle.When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
