Description:
This fine rifle is about 44 cal, 29'' heavy octagon barrel with a very good lightly oxidized bore. The barrel and hammer have a chocolate brown patina with hints of silvering on the high edges, light pitting around the nipple, a few scattered light dings, and specks of light oxidation throughout; the upper tang has an about 1 3/8'' light crack traveling up from the screw hole, but tight and not open. The brass sideplates, triggerguard, patchbox, and buttplate have a dark ochre patina with a few light handling marks. The cherry stock is in very good to very good plus condition with a few tight drying cracks at the buttplate, a 1/8'' gap at the rear of the lockplate, and a few light handling dings. The stock features a 1 3/4'' rectangular monogram plate on the flared left-side cheekpiece. The rifle is unmarked except for ''HITCHCOCK & MUZZY'' lightly marked on the underside of the barrel, and the base of the barrel, sideplates, hammer, and patchbox are decorated with some light foliate scroll engraving. The rifle is sighted with a hooded globe-style front sight and a sporting-style rear sight. Rifle requires mechanically attention, as half-cock notch is worn, but holds at full cock.. A nice example of an American percussion sporting rifle. In the brass parch box is a hand weitten note about the maker and has been in there awhile.A threaded hole in the top tang possibly for aan early screw it peep sight. This maker is listed as working in Worcester, Mass 1846-1857   Made percussion rifles, pistols, Morse carbines, and barrels and closed operations in 1857! When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith  before  shooting. To buy a gun from me you must get a direct email for me, with details, and shipping cost.   We don’t have a web  site .I prefer money orders or a check.  Item ships when funds come in. I try to keep guns  affordable, which means I make less money than most dealers. You won’t get altitude sickness, or nose bleed, with my prices! I consistently have the best selection of  older guns If you attempt to buy,  you must still contact us for details . Best to email to buy. Sometimes a local person can stop buy and purchase before the gun is removed.  Sometimes not home to get calls. Some guns are required shipment to a gun dealer near you for a transfer to you when it arrives. Otherwise many older or black powder guns ship to your door. With the widest selection of older guns at great prices, We don’t have a store, and sell on the internet only.  I’m easy to get along with. Thank You
