Description:
This fine gun is about .56 cal, with a half round/octgonal 9 3/4'' barrel with an oxidized bore. The barrel of this pistol has mostly toned to gunmetal gray showing some remnants of light pitting and some old minor oxidation staining. The barrel flat is maker-marked ''GABRIEL CHI…?'', some of the letters are difficult to discern. The lockplate appears to be converted from flint and the barrel fitted with a large swept nipple bolster. The lockplate shows evidence of cleaning with some brass inlays, the designs now rather worn, and remnants of a maker mark along the bottom edge. The trigger is rather fancy with a long curlicue. The remaining hardware is brass and shows some rudimentary embellishments throughout, with figures in profile along the triggerguard, monogram plate atop the wrist and sideplate. The brass has mostly toned to ocher showing some scattered light dings and areas of smoothing. The Italian walnut stock remains in about very good condition, the tip with an old repair, 3'' of which have been neatly reattached, a few smaller repairs and light handling marks. There are some gaps near the buttplate, the carved raised edges remain strong and the grip shows areas of subtle attractive grain figure. A simple hickory ramrod is present and the lock is functional. A very fancy gentleman's belt pistol , with an old hardwood ram-rod.
