A True LEGACY piece. Beautiful & Extremely Rare. COLT DOUBLE ACTION FRONTIER M1878 in 450 Boxer, 5.5" barrel, S/N 3700 Shipped from Colt to Colt London Agency February 1881. Blued finish, fire blued small parts, checkered hardwood grips. Early production large sized grip frame. Barrel with one-line dual "Hartford & London" address reading COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO HARTFORD, CT U.S.A. DEPOT 14 PALL MALL LONDON. Left front of trigger guard stamped with the caliber marking 45 CAL / B. London commercial proof marks under barrel and at the rear of each cylinder flute. Here we have an excellent antique COLT MODEL 1878 DOUBLE ACTION FRONTIER ARMY REVOLVER built in 1878 and shipped to Colt of London at their Pall Mall address. These early London address Frontier revolvers have high collector interest and
some unusual features. This gun was shipped in caliber .45 Boxer and is so stamped on the left forward side of the trigger guard. There were a total of 51,210 Model 1878 double action Frontier revolvers produced with only 6417 going to the London facility. Only 2390 were shipped in .45 Boxer, and only 1653 with blue finish and 5 ½” barrel. This is one of only 1653 made in this Variation. There are very very few Colt revolvers that were built like this one. We have thoroughly examined this Colt and it is correct as shipped and documented by the Colt Firearms Catalog. A must have for the advanced Colt or Firearms collector as only 1653 were made 144 yrs ago, who knows how many are left especially in this condion. Don't miss out on this rare oppurtunity. Condition: Fine, retains much of the nickel finish with some thinning and minor flaked loss with some scattered scuffs and minor surface scratches. Markings remain clear and crisp. Mechanically functional, fine bore, grips very good with crisp checkering. Frame and loading gate with matching numbers. Perfect collector addition.
