Description:
An excellent 1st Issue, high condition 1925 Colt Police Positive Special from the Prohibition Era.
A five-inch barrel, chambered in .38 Special was first introduced in 1907 as the Police Positive Special, a larger and stronger version of Colt's Police Positive, built on a larger, longer frame with heavier cylinder made to handle the more powerful .38 Special cartridge.
The "1st Issue" Police Positive Special remained in production until 1927, when the 2nd Issue was released, which later ended in 1946.
The 1st Issue guns proved very popular with civilians, police and government agencies, quickly earning a reputation for being very well-made, reliable, accurate, and powerful.
Offered here is an excellent example which features Colt's High Polish blue finish, 6-shot fluted cylinder, fixed sights, and checkered hard rubber grips.
The bright Polish finish shows 98% with a hint of high edge wear at the very edge of the muzzle with a few light handling marks.
The bore is excellent, showing mirror-bright with strong, sharp rifling. The chambers show clean and bright. The original grips are in excellent condition with sharp checkering with no cracks or chips.
The action operates perfectly, no end-play in the cylinder and solid lock-up. There is no fouling to either the cylinder face or forcing cone, and no shell impacts to the recoil shield.
This piece is in excellent condition throughout. A fine addition for a Colt / Prohibition Era collection.
