Description:
Smith & Wesson 1st model hand ejector ("triple lock") DA revolver, .44 S&W Special cal, 5" barrel, re-nickeled finish, custom engraved Bohlin silver grips with LA County sheriff's badge medallions and gold initials on the right grip "WRT", #2045 (and a star on the butt strap) with factory letter indicating the gun was shipped from the factory on April 21, 1910 and delivered to Union Hardware & Metal Co, Los Angeles, CA with a 5" barrel, nickel finish and checkered walnut grips. The letter also states "The star next to the serial number indicates that the revolver was returned to the factory for refinishing or rework". The gun is also accompanied by a custom fancy tooled leather silver mounted holster rig. This gun and rig are accompanied by a letter and file of information from noted Western historian and author Lee Silva who discovered the gun in 2009 and was able to determine that it was previously the property of Warren R Tate, a member of LA Sheriff E.W. Biscalluz's "Silver Mounted Posse", one of five Board of Governors of the Posse and the Chairman of the Membership Committee in 1951. Tate, according to an LA Times article dated May 21, 1945, won the silver mounted division for men at the Chino Rancho Ride and was apparently a life-long rider in silver-mounted groups and posses and was an auto dealer in Pomona, CA. Mr. Silva also indicated he located the Buscadero style leather holster and belt marked "Hand carved by I.D. John, Los Angeles, California" in Paso Robles, CA and added the sterling silver Ed Bohlin "Ranger" style buckle set and silver conchos to the holster and belt in order to pair the rig with the Smith & Wesson. The gun is in overall good condition as refinished with a very good bore, crisp action and good markings; the Bohlin grips are beautifully accomplished and in find condition; the holster rig is overall very good showing find tooling; the Bohlin silver mountings and conchos are finely accomplished and accent the rig nicely. A classic parade set identified to a Southern California businessman from the mid-1900's. FFL required
