Description:
.A well worn 69 cal.percussion musket with a 40” barrel with an oxidized bore. This interesting arm appears to be a quality conversion as its architecture appears far too old to be a percussion arm. All of the iron surfaces are a lightly oxidized and pitted plum brown patina. There are three bands, brass sight on front and top lug for bayonet, the arm appearing very much to be of 1816 pattern. The lock has been replaced with a commercial John Walker marked lock, the hammer not quite making center contact with the nipple, but hitting on the top edge. The walnut stock rates very good showing a number firld handling dings and small chips. There was a shield-shaped plaque and silver Federal Eagle inletted into the right side of the butt, perhaps signifying a prize rifle, there are remnants of a light engraving atop the barrel at breech, the inletted pieces are no longer present. A very interesting militia musket overall. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
