Description: Winchester model 1895 lever action rifle. 30-40 US cal. 28" barrel. This is a very early third year production rifle manufactured in 1897. It is a standard configuration with full round barrel, blued finish, walnut stock. Case colored hammer and buttplate. The rifle remains in beautiful all original condition. The barrel has approximately 98% factory blue finish. Sides and top of frame have approximately 80% of the original high polish Factory blue. The majority of blue is on the sides of the magazine, The Lever retains approximately 30% blue. The balance is a pleasing smooth patina. Walnut stocks are excellent, proud to metal with no cracks or major chips, just a couple of minor impressions. Hammer retains the majority of it's case colors. Buttplate is a grey patina. Rear sight slot is empty. Rifle sports the desirable Slidin Lyman model 21 receiver sight and a standard front sporting sight. Schnable forend has the ebony insert. Strong clean bore. Perfect action. This is an extremely fine condition example of a second model 1895. The first 5,000 guns were termed "Flatsides", so this is one of the early second models.
