Description: Brant decoys carved by Wilfred and Harry Glover. Walt Glover was born in Sheffield, England, whereas brother Harry was born in Wellington after the family emigrated to British Columbia. The brothers now live in Union Bay on the Vancouver Island. Wilf was a pattern maker and draftsman. Harrway was a machinist. The combination allowed the men, beginning in the 1920s, to carve some fine, interesting Canada goose decoys and black brant decoys. They hunted from beach blinds in several Vancouver locations including Sandy Island, the Big Qualicum River and merry Island near the Campbell River. The most interesting of their decoys are the brant, which are hollow cedar with bottom boards, to which are attached swing weights for counter balance. This style of weight is found on similar but unknown brant decoys of the region so the brothers may have been trend setters.Size: Largest 20" x 11", Smallest 16" x 11 Price: $3,000.00 |
