Description:
375 Flanged, 2 1/2". Serial number 420XX. 24 3/4" barrels. LOP 14.25". 8.7 lbs. Receiver retains 40% case color, 80% open scroll engraving coverage. Barrels probable re-blued with English grade workmanship. Retain high percentage blueing from refurbish. Scope base unknown system, probable aftermarket. Rear base engraved to match primary engraving. Rear sight 100 yard standing, 200 & 300 yard folding leaf, probable replacement. Bores are fair to good, no pitting, Enfield-pattern rifling. Barrels marked "Cogwells & Harrison Ltd. 141 New Bond St & 226 Strand London. Service charge 40gr cordite, 270gr bullet". Proof marks show Birmingham original, 375 EX cordite 40-270 max with later London re-proof. Action lower plate retains high percentage re-blue from re-furbish. Has breech face inset strikers. Mechanically sound, crisp. Safety positive. Stalking safety. Splinter forend, multi-point flattop checkering with mullered boarders. Slight chip on right side at rear, 3/4" long x 1/8" wide. Overall sound, shows wear. Buttstock excellent, with very little oil soaking. Multi-point checkering pattern, with mullered boarders. Shows wear. Right hand cheekpiece with ghostline. Steel buttplate partially checkered, partially engraved. Overall a sound rifle.
