FINE MEXICAN WAR ERA AMES MANUFACTURING CO. U.S. MILITIA OFFICER’S SWORD WITH SCABBARD CIRCA 1840’S. 33” o/a with 25” blade etched with U.S. Martial motifs and floral panels. Signed under the langet “AMES MFG. CO./CHICOPEE/MASS”. Gilded brass hilt and scabbard. Fluted bone grip. All original and in superior condition with most of the gilding remaining. Blade with mint etching on blade. Cruciform guard with “CLAM SHELL” langets and “HELMET” pommel. Superior example of an Officer’s sword popular in the mid 1840’s thru the Mexican War.
