Adolph Otto Niedner was born in Philadelphia in 1864 and passed away December 26, 1954. From an early age Niedner was a rifleman and constantly sought out accuracy. At the turn of the century, he was one of the best offhand shots in the U.S. The Niedner Rifle Corp. started life in Dowagiac in 1920 with a new building and a 200-yard range. In 1924 Niedner hired Thomas Shelhamer as their stockmaker, and he remained there until just after WWII. After Niedner Corp. closed Shelhamer went on his own and he was recognized as one of the best stockmakers in the U.S. He passed away May 6, 1971. Townsend Whelen told people that asked, go to Niedner's if you want a new barrel.
