Description:
With a large bore of .58 cal., 44” barrel with an oxidized bore. This Kabyle or Mukahla musket is likely, based on the distinctive shape of the buttstock, from the Tetuan region of Morocco. The metal surfaces have aged to an overall moderately-oxidized brown patina and the barrel is retained by 10 ornate hammered brass capucines which have, along with the triggerguard and other decorative brass components, aged to a lightly-tarnished goldenrod patina. The Mediterranean hardwood stock rates perhaps very good with lengthy chips missing from both wood lines and scattered cracks around the action and buttstock but not open. The buttplate is a piece of bone with iron toe and comb plates and the buttstock is accented with numerous small iron brads with sling loops on the left side of the action and lower barrel band. The barrel is sighted with a buckhorn rear sight and worn bead front, an antique ramrod is present and the action works well on half cock and full cock, utilizing a Brown Bess type lock. A very colorful display item most likely not safe to fire. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
