The approx. 28"" round 44 caliber centerfire (the firing pin can be changed to rim fire.) barrel has a very good bore with strong rifling and some erosion in the grooves. The barrel is a smooth blue/brown and the action has a gray/brown patina, The stocks are very good with no cracks or chips with the exception of an expert repair at the right forearm tip. The barrel is marked WHITNEY ARMS CO. WHITNEYVILLE-CONN. The action functions correctly. This gun has the hand extractor under the forearm. Few of these Excelsiors are out there.
