Description:
THIS M1812 Musket (in Original Flint)  IN HAND NOW...LAYAWAY?. .69 cal, 42” barrel with a good lightly oxidized bore. This is a very handsome musket in the original flint, the barrel toning to a mix of deep gray and rich plum-brown patina with some scattered old oxidation staining and sparse fine pitting, some more noticeable around the touch-hole and the left side breech also showing a number of old dings. The iron mountings and lockplate are a similar honest patina as the barrel and the brass pan is a wonderful untouched dark ocher-green patina. The top of the breech shows the familiar sunken “P” proof and there is a prominent “E” stamped atop the bayonet lug while the center of the lockplate shows “N. HAVEN” in riband. The smooth walnut stock remains in fine condition retaining a healthy amount of original oil finish that has darkened nicely from the years showing a very thin drying crack behind the rear barrel band, a couple very old smoothed-over slivers about the lockplate and otherwise just the expected light dings. The stock flats retain nice definition and hardware fit remains near excellent throughout. The left flat shows no evident cartouches and the right side butt has a period brass plate affixed with two screws and is neatly engraved “MSP / 47”. Obviously Mississippi immediately comes to mind but based on a cursory search similarly marked or adorned examples have not been located. The original sling swivels are intact along with a proper button tip ramrod and the lock is crisp and seems to function well mechanically. Also included is an antique socket bayonet that is a nice plum-brown patina overall, the blade bent outwards very slightly and the socket stamped with a small “S”. The bayonet measures 18” overall with a 14 3/4” blade. This is a very fine and honest Whitney musket.S/H $50 **2nd firearm ships FREE with this one!.... .Thanks, Greg #64-65
